Choosing a senior photographer is about more than loving their portfolio. You're trusting someone to spend hours with your teenager and create photographs that represent who they really are.
For LGBTQ+ seniors and their families, there can be another question:
“Will my photographer actually respect my child for who they are?”
At Storybook Studios, the answer is yes. ❤️ But being LGBTQ+ friendly isn't just about putting a rainbow on your website. It should show up in the actual experience.
If your senior has a name or pronouns they want us to use, that's what we'll use.
No repeated corrections. No awkward questions. No judgment. It's simply about treating people with respect.
Senior portraits don't need to follow traditional ideas of what boys or girls “should” wear or how they “should” pose. Maybe your senior wants a tux. Maybe they want a dramatic gown. Maybe they want both. Maybe they want something completely different. Their photos should reflect them.
We don't assume someone's pronouns, relationships, family structure, or what they're comfortable with.
Your senior shouldn't have to explain or defend who they are. Our job is to photograph them—not make them educate their photographer.
These are your teenager's senior portraits, so they should have a say in how they're photographed.
If they don't like a pose, we'll change it.
If they have an idea, we'll try it.
If there's something they don't want photographed, we'll respect that.
Anyone can put that sentence on a website.
What matters is what happens once someone walks through the door.
Can your senior be themselves?
Can they dress how they want?
Can they talk openly about what they do and don't want?
Do they feel respected?
That's what being truly LGBTQ+ friendly looks like.
Your senior shouldn't have to change who they are for their photographs. Their senior portraits should celebrate who they are right now. ✨
At Storybook Studios, LGBTQ+ seniors and families are welcome here. 🏳️🌈
Not just during Pride Month.
Every month. Every session. Every senior. ❤️
