Why We Plan Every Senior Photography Session

A great senior session doesn’t start when your senior steps in front of the camera.

It starts much earlier. 📝

One of the biggest differences between a thoughtfully planned senior session and a rushed one is everything that happens before we ever take the first photo.

We start with your senior—not a Pinterest board. 💭

Every senior is different. Some want dramatic portraits. Some are more comfortable with something simple. Some have a specific hobby, outfit, or idea they’ve been dreaming about for years.

That’s why we don’t believe in giving every senior the same list of poses and locations.

During the planning process, we talk about what your senior likes, what they want their photos to feel like, what they’re comfortable with, and what makes them them. ❤️

Then we think about the details. 🔎

What are they wearing? 👗

What location make sense for their outfits and personality? 📍

What will the light be doing at that time of day? ☀️

Does the background complement the outfit—or compete with it?

Is there anything that could become distracting in the final image?

Even little things can make a big difference.

A stray hair. A hand that looks awkward. A shirt that needs adjusting. A background element that pulls your eye away from your senior.

We're watching for all of it. 👀

We plan for variety. 🎬

We don't want your senior's gallery to look like 30 versions of the same photograph.

We think about different poses, expressions, angles, compositions, outfits, and locations so the final gallery feels complete.

Some images might be dramatic.

Some might be playful.

Some might be simple portraits that your senior ends up loving the most.

The goal is to create a images that tells a bigger story rather than simply checking off a list of poses. ✨

And then there’s the light. ☀️📸

Good lighting can completely change a portrait.

We’re paying attention to where the sun is, where the shadows fall, what direction your senior should face, and whether the location will actually give us the look we want.

Sometimes the prettiest-looking location isn't the best location for photographs.

And sometimes a spot that looks completely ordinary in person creates an incredible portrait.

That's why we don't just show up and start shooting.

Your senior shouldn't have to figure any of this out. 🙌

They don't need to know how to pose.

They don't need to know what to do with their hands.

They don't need to know which way to turn.

They don't need to know where the best light is.

That's our job.

Our job is to take all of those little decisions off their shoulders so they can actually enjoy the experience. ❤️
