We know. You just spent hours taking photos, and now you want to see them. ๐
But when it comes to senior portraits, we don't believe choosing your favorites should be a five-minute scroll through a gallery while saying, โI like this oneโฆ wait, maybe this one.โ ๐
Thereโs a lot more that goes into choosing the images that become your final portraits.
A senior session can produce a lot of great images, but that doesn't mean every technically good photo needs to make the cut.
Sometimes there are three nearly identical photos, and one has the better expression. Sometimes the lighting is slightly better in one frame. Sometimes the pose works beautifully in one image but feels just a little off.
Those differences can be tinyโbut they matter. ๐
We look at the whole session, not just individual photographs.
If you have 30 images of basically the same pose, you don't need 30 versions of it.
We want your final gallery to tell the story of your session.
Different locations. Different expressions. Different poses. Close-ups. Full-length portraits. Movement. Personality.
The goal isn't to give you a giant folder of photographs that all look alike. It's to give you a collection where each image brings something different to the table.
This is where our attention to detail really comes into play.
We're watching for things you might not notice while scrolling through your images:
โจ A stray hair crossing the face
โ An awkward hand position
๐ณ A distracting background element
๐ A slightly less flattering camera angle
๐ An expression that's just a fraction different
๐ Clothing that isn't sitting quite right
๐ก A moment where the lighting isn't as strong
And yes, some of those things can be addressed in retouching.
But we'd rather start with the strongest photograph possible.
If you've ever tried to choose between two photos that look almost exactly the same, you know how quickly it becomes impossible.
โDo I like this one better?โ
โBut her smile is better in the other one.โ
โWait, go back.โ
โActually, I think I like the first one.โ
And suddenly you've spent 45 minutes choosing between two photographs that are practically twins. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
That's not particularly helpful.
Our job isn't just to take the photographs. It's also to help you navigate the process afterward.
Sometimes your favorite image at first glance isn't necessarily the strongest portrait.
Maybe you love the one where she's laughing because it feels spontaneous. Another image might have better composition, beautiful light, and a stronger expression.
We aren't going to tell you that you can't love the laughing photo.
Of course you can. โค๏ธ
But we also want you to see the photographs through a photographer's eyes so you can make informed decisions about the images you're investing in.
Senior portraits are an investment, and we don't want your final images to feel like a random collection of whatever happened to be captured during the session.
We want variety.
We want personality.
We want the strongest expressions, the best light, and the photographs that actually look like her. ๐
That's why we don't just hand you a massive gallery and say, โGood luck!โ
There is a lot of thought that happens before you ever see those final images.
Because taking the picture is only part of our job. Knowing which pictures are worth keeping is part of it, too. ๐ธ
If you want portraits that feel personal, expressive, and worth taking the time to choose well, Storybook Studios is ready to help. We welcome seniors and families who value a guided, artistic experience from start to finish.
