What Happens During a Storybook Studios Senior Session (From Start to Finish)
Jun 29 2026 | By: Storybook Studios
When your child’s senior year arrives, everything starts moving quickly. The last year of high school is filled with milestones, changes, and the excitement of what comes next. Senior portraits are one of those moments where you get to freeze time and remember exactly who they were during this chapter of life.
At Storybook Studios, we believe senior portraits should be more than a quick photo appointment. They should be an experience your senior actually enjoys — and one you’ll be proud to look back on for years.
Here’s what you can expect from a Storybook Studios senior session.
The Consultation: Creating a Plan Around Your Senior
Every senior is different. Some walk in with a Pinterest board full of ideas. Others say, “I have no idea what I want.” We work with both.
Before the session, we get to know your senior — their personality, interests, style, hobbies, and the things that make them who they are. This helps us create portraits that feel personal instead of like a copy of everyone else’s senior pictures.
We’ll help with planning outfits, choosing locations, and creating ideas that fit their personality.
A Wardrobe Experience Unlike Traditional Senior Portraits
Finding outfits for senior portraits can feel overwhelming. That’s why Storybook Studios offers the Storybook Closet — a collection of one-of-a-kind dresses and artistic wardrobe options available for our seniors.
Instead of spending hours shopping for multiple outfits, your senior can choose looks that photograph beautifully and help bring the vision to life.
Whether they want something timeless, dramatic, fun, or completely different, we help create a style that feels like them.
Professional Hair & Makeup Included
Your senior’s session starts with professional hair and makeup. This gives them time to relax, get comfortable, and enjoy the beginning of their experience.
Many seniors arrive feeling nervous — especially those who don’t love being in front of a camera. Having time to chat, laugh, and ease into the day helps them feel much more comfortable before we even start photographing.
The makeup is very natural. Nothing over the top.
A Session Designed Around Their Personality
Some seniors want classic portraits. Others want something creative, bold, or completely unexpected.
Maybe they want to include a sport, hobby, passion, instrument, uniform, or an idea they’ve always imagined.
We love creating sessions that reflect the person behind the smile. Because years from now, you won’t just want to remember what they looked like.
You’ll want to remember who they were.
During the Photoshoot: No Experience Needed
We typically photograph two of the looks at the studio with our multiple sets, inside and outside. Then, we grab lunch from wherever they want. And finally, we go to a location of their choice, for the last look.
Your senior does not need to know how to pose or know what to do in front of the camera. We guide them through everything, from posing and movement to expressions and creating natural moments. Our goal is never to make them look like someone else. Our goal is to capture who they are.
After the Session: Turning Moments Into Artwork
After the photoshoot, we carefully select and edit their portraits to create finished artwork that your family can enjoy for years.
These images become more than senior pictures.
They become a reminder of this exact season — before graduation, before the next adventure, and before life changes again.
Why Families Choose Storybook Studios
Senior year goes by incredibly fast. Our goal is to make senior portraits easy, meaningful, and memorable for both seniors and their families.
From wardrobe and professional hair and makeup to personalized planning and guided posing, every detail is designed so your senior feels comfortable, celebrated, and completely themselves.
Because these aren’t just photos of what they looked like senior year. They’re photos of who they were.
